High Torque BLDC Motor
High torque BLDC motor can be used in a variety of applications. They operate without brushes and commutation sparks, so they have a long life and are quiet. They also work well with gears.
Choosing the right size motor depends on the application. Generally, manufacturers use a standard naming system that includes 4-digit numbers.
Low Noise RapidPower Xtreme (LRPX) BLDC planetary gear motors
ElectroCraft’s high-performance small-frame planetary gear motors pair perfectly with a range of planetary gearboxes, providing optimal power density and speed control. These versatile motors are available in a wide array of voltage and diameter specifications, ensuring that OEMs can find the perfect custom solution for their unique requirements.
Using electronic commutation instead of mechanical brushes, BLDC motors are quieter and more efficient than traditional brushed motors. This is especially true when paired with a planetary gearbox, as the meshing of the gears causes very little vibration or noise during operation.
In addition, a planetary gear BLDC motor can handle a wider range of load capacities than other gear motors. This allows for increased efficiency, which is particularly important in applications that require precision movement, such as 3D printers, camera gimbals, or telescope mounts.
Moreover, these compact and powerful motors offer seamless integration with their controllers. Their built-in driver provides functions such as power supply management, direction (CW and CCW), PWM speed control, Hall signal feedback, High torque BLDC motor and brake control. This level of control precision is critical to applications that require consistent performance, such as conveyor systems or automated assembly lines.
RPX Series Small-Frame BLDC Motors
ElectroCraft’s RPX Series small-frame fractional horsepower motors deliver class-leading torque per frame size performance while being highly energy efficient and ideal for embedded applications. They are available with 12V, 24V or 48V DC windings and include hall sensor feedback, making them easily configurable for any application.
The RPX motor features peak operating efficiency at low RPM allowing it to be custom integrated with a planetary gear motor. This approach preserves the small form factor of the RPX motor while providing high torque output and quiet operation.
Allied Motion offers a wide range of integrated planetary gear motors for the RPX series. This allows system designers to meet speed, torque and power requirements in a smaller package that can be used in a wider range of automation applications.
Example: A customer in the oil and gas industry was building a pipeline inspection robot that required high torque at slow speeds. They needed to find a small motor that could deliver this. They used the LRPX RPX22 with a 32 mm diameter frame and found that it was capable of delivering the required 175 m-Nm of peak torque while still maintaining a very small form factor and being quiet.
The RPX series motor has a built-in current sensor that monitors both the actual and peak current and can be set to stop driving when an overload occurs. This feature allows for a more rugged design that can operate over longer periods of time without the need for an external brake or mechanical safety device.
RPX Series BLDC Motors with Speed Controller
The RPX Series of small-frame BLDC motors deliver a high amount of torque at low speeds, making them ideal for many applications. A customer in the oil and gas industry, for example, used a RPX40 with a 40 mm frame to build a pipeline inspection robot that needed powerful, smooth motion at extremely slow speeds. The motor was able to deliver the desired performance while taking up a very small footprint and generating little heat.
BLDC motors can be run below their rated speed as long as the control circuit is designed to keep the current under the maximum High torque BLDC motor company value allowed for the windings. However, running the motor below rated speed can cause it to draw higher currents than normal, which can lead to overheating and mechanical damage.
To avoid overheating and mechanical damage, it is recommended to keep the RPX Series motors within their rated speed range. If you need to run the motor below its rated speed, you should consider using an external controller that provides feedback on the state of the machine so that you can react accordingly and prevent overheating.
maxon offers a wide range of brushless DC drives that are perfectly suited for driving RPX Series motors. You can find the right drive system by entering a few parameters in our shop.
